About the randomness

  • Truly random. Passwords come from your browser's cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source browsers use for encryption keys, not the predictable Math.random.
  • Strength is measured in bits. The bar shows length × log₂(characters available). Around 80 bits is strong, 120 or more is out of reach for brute force. Adding length helps more than adding symbols.
  • Private by design. Everything happens on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, saved or logged. Use a different password for every account and keep them in a password manager.

About the password generator

Choose the length and the kinds of characters: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. The strength meter shows the entropy in bits. As a guide, 12 or more random characters is reasonable for most accounts, and 16 or more is better for important ones.

Passwords are made with the cryptographic random generator built into your browser, not with a predictable formula. They are created on your device and are never sent or stored.
